Sardonic-  mocking; cynical;sneering, (can refer to a grin, a smile, a laugh, person, character, behavior, nature etc.)

-Comes from Gk sardónios

-HISTORY FACT:  The Greeks believed that ingesting a plant called sardonion (lit. "plant from Sardinia,") caused facial convulsions resembling those of mocking, bitter, cynical laughter (predominantly followed by a moderate case of death)




Acrimonious-  stinging, or bitter in nature (can refer to answer, a dispute, a character, food etc.)

-Comes from L. acrimonia "sharpness,pungency of taste

-acer "sharp" (fem. acris , neut, acre ) + -monia (suffix of action, state, condition)

-HISTORY FACT:  It's reference for a term of "sharpness of temper" is first recorded 1610s
